PlayStation Plus' free games for September aren't off to the best start, as the first title in the mix for Essential subscribers has a score of just 2.9 from fans on Metacritic.
August was a solid enough month for Essential tier subscribers, who can currently grab in August: PGA Tour 2K23, Dreams, and Death’s Door.
Elsewhere, Extra and Premium subscribers could get further 17 games in August, including Moving Out 2, Lost Judgement, and Destiny 2: The Witch Queen. Oh, and you can now finally get your hands on the gorgeous indie RPG Sea Of Stars, which is getting rave reviews.

While the PlayStation Plus free games for September have yet to be officially unveiled, it sounds as if one of the next titles is a... controversial one, to say the least. That's according to a leaker with a 100 percent track record, anyway.
As you may have heard, a highly reliable PlayStation Plus leaker believes that the 2022 Saints Row reboot will be the first free game for September. While I'd argue this is a fairly underrated open-world adventure, others are much less keen. Case in point? The 2.9 user score on Metacritic, based on over 1,000 ratings.

Fans have slammed Saints Row as one of the worst AAA games ever made, absolutely riddled with bugs (though I think this is slightly better now), and generally not fun to play. And just in case you were thinking this was all via some review bombing campaign from fans who were just angry at the game, Saints Row has a critic score of 61. Better, but not much better. So in other words, even people who think Saints Row is good only really believe it's slightly better than bang-average. Look forward to checking this one out (or perhaps not) when it hits PlayStation Plus in a few days!
