Ubisoft seemingly did the impossible back in 2024 when it released its brand-new action-adventure game which welcomed a new area of gaming.

According to Ubisoft, Skull and Bones would be a “quadruple-A” game which explains the multiple delays and $70 price tag.

“You will see that Skull and Bones is a fully-fledged game,” Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said in an interview with Forbes.

“It’s a very big game, and we feel that people will really see how vast and complete that game is. It’s a really full, triple…quadruple-A game that will deliver in the long run.”

Upon hearing this, you can imagine that players were excited to get stuck into an epic action-adventure game which took place on the high seas, especially as Ubisoft is also the brains behind Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.

However, we all know what happened next.

Skull and Bones was a flop and to this day, it sits on a mere 3.3 user score over on Metacritic.

So it makes you wonder why Sony decided to add Skull and Bones to its PlayStation Plus catalogue as a bonus game throughout June.

Arriving to the service on 2 June and available for free for PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra members, Skull and Bones will be free to download but as you can imagine, this is a title that many subscribers will skip over, even if it does cost nothing.

Added alongside titles such as Grand Theft Auto III, Another Crab’s Treasure, and Destiny 2: Legacy Edition, it is safe to say that Skull and Bones will be left in the dust.

“The first AAAA game ever added to the PS+ service... incredible month,” user vladimirt94 joked over on r/PlayStationPlus.

“Finally, we get to experience the majesty of the quadruple-A Ubisoft masterpiece,” another user added.

“Sony can now feel justified in raising the monthly price again.”

Well, at least there is GTA III.
