PlayStation Plus Gamers Horrified Over Impending Shutdown Date

It will be gone too soon

PlayStation Plus subscribers are horrified to learn that a new inclusion is shutting down much sooner than expected.

PlayStation Plus has tons of games to play, regardless of the tier that we subscribe to. Of course, the higher the tier, specifically PS Plus Premium, will offer even more choices, as well as additional perks such as cloud streaming, a selection of movies, and more.

When the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium games were announced for September 2025, they included WWE 2K25, which is a damn fun game to play, especially if you’re a fan of the weirdly wacky industry, that is, professional wrestling.

In my review of WWE 2K25, I said: “Inside the squared circle, WWE 2K25 is not only the absolute best pro wrestling game today, but it’s arguably the best pro wrestling game ever.”

WWE 2K25 offers a lot of bang for your buck, not only with its hundreds of playable characters but with its variety of modes from the Showcase campaign, MyRISE campaign, Universe and much more. That’s not even taking into account its fantastic community-created content.

WWE 2K25 is also quite fun to play online, whether it's traditional matches or via its MyGM and MyFACTION modes. However, in 2027, those online features, including community creations, will no longer be accessible, regardless of whether you have purchased the game or acquired it via PlayStation Plus.

“WWE 2K25 shutdown date revealed just after making it into Playstation Plus (September 2025),” wrote Reddit user Gamers_paradise921, sharing an article from WrestlingSpoilers.com.

On 14 March 2027, the online servers for WWE 2K25 will be shutting down. You will still be able to access all single-player modes and play local multiplayer, but when it comes to all of its online offerings, well, it may have just lost a ‘Buried Alive’ match against The Undertaker.

The most likely reason for the WWE 2K25 servers to be shutting down is that keeping servers active is not cheap, especially during a time when many players would have jumped ship to WWE 2K26 by that point. Still, an extra year of its online modes being accessible would have been something, at least.

Just a heads up, the online servers for WWE 2K24 will also be shutting down on 5 January 2026.

“I’ve never seen a game announce its server shutdown date so soon,” replied EmptyCupOfWater.

“If anyone played a 2K sports game in the last few years, this shouldn't come as a surprise; its games, especially WWE, only seem to have a two-year life cycle,” said SrsJoe.

“18 months is plenty of time for online. Most won’t even look at the game after the next one comes out,” claimed MrFluffy4Real.

“The shutdown dates for the WWE 2K games are always in the manual for the game. This shutdown date has been known since the game launched,” explained Specialist_Lock6779.

WWE 2K25 is out now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2. WWE 2K26 hasn't been announced yet, but it’s only a matter of time.
