PlayStation Plus subscribers issued free downloads as apology from Sony

Sony says sorry with some freebies

Sony is apologising to PlayStation Plus subscribers for the recent PlayStation Stars outage by rolling over two of the Days of Play campaigns from earlier this year.

During the huge Days of Play event, held annually by Sony, the rewards scheme was unavailable for a number of days causing an avalanche of complaints across social media.

PlayStation has a gorgeous new DualSense coming out soon to celebrate the release of Astro Bot

Many wondered whether Sony would acknowledge the outage with some sort of apology and while the company did eventually fix the issue and apologise, players wondered what would happen next.

Many ardent fans of the Stars service had missed out on the potential opportunities to earn limited-time collectibles.

Now, Sony has rolled over the following campaigns: ‘A Flip of the Virtual Coin’ and ‘Coin of the Classics.’

In order to earn these two collectibles, you’ll have to play some specific games. The former will require you to play one of the following PSVR2 games: Ghostbusters Rise of the Ghost Lord, Before Your Eyes, or Walkabout Mini Golf.

‘Coin of the Classics’ is a bit easier, as it doesn’t require require any extra hardware. You simply have to play either Tomb Raider Legend, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, or Sly Cooper & the Thievius Racconus.

Meeting any of these criteria will bag you a free digital collectible, though for some reason these campaigns aren’t available to Essential PlayStation Plus subscribers, which is an odd move on Sony’s part.

Perhaps because the games are locked behind either owning a PSVR2 headset or the Premium subscription, however, all games are available to buy so owners will still miss out on the campaigns.

Sadly, it appears Sony won’t be bringing back any of the points-based campaigns, which would have netted you some extra points to convert into money on the PSN store. Which is another bizarre move on their part.
