PlayStation Plus new free game 'one of the worst ever made', fans warn

Never let it be said that PlayStation Plus isn't capable of bringing out some serious bangers when it needs to.

In the last few weeks alone PlayStation Plus subscribers have been treated to a massive range of brilliant free games. We're talking a genuine masterpiece GOTY winner, a bunch of Far Cry titles, and one of the best releases of the last few years. Unfortunately, not every free game can be a winner.

Earlier this week PlayStation Plus dropped 18 new free games for subscribers on the Extra tier. It's a pretty solid batch of games... for the most part. But there's one in particular that those unlucky enough to have played it are urging others to avoid like it's a bloke on the bus during the pandemic who wears his mask under his nose.

"I question the judgement of anyone who gives Dynasty Warriors 9 anything above a 3/10," wrote one Reddit user. "I've never been more bored in my life. It's like the video game equivalent of doing one's taxes or sitting in church. And I say that as the target audience of this kind of game."

Dynasty Warriors 9, an open world hack-and-slash adventure, has a 65 critic score on Metacritic and an 8.4 user score. While some would have you believe anything under 70 is a complete failure, 65 would typically indicate mixed reviews rather than universal hate. So is Dynasty Warriors 9 really as bad as all that?

"DW9 is one of the worst Musou games ever made," another Reddit user chimed in. "It’s better than All-Stars, but outside of that... sheesh."

A third went so far as to compare the game to a Steam asset flip, which is about the harshest thing we could imagine. While many do seem to agree that Dynasty Warriors 9 is the worst in the series, others suggest that there's some fun to be had, so it's up to you whether you dive in or stay away. Just remember that there are like 17 other new games that you be checking out, so be wise with your time.
