Yesterday, Insomniac Games held their panel for the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 at San Diego Comic Con - and oh boy, they delivered the goods.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is undeniably the most highly anticipated upcoming PlayStation first-party release. Then again, we have no idea what’s in the pipeline beyond that. Announce something, Sony. Please. At Summer Game Fest, it was revealed that Peter and Miles will swing back onto our consoles on 20 October so we’re edging closer towards that final countdown. We know the game is set to take us to several new boroughs of New York, with the map reportedly being twice as large. Players will also be able to instantly switch between Miles and Peter during free-roam. At the SDCC panel, the team debuted a fantastic new story trailer and unveiled that you’ll soon be able to grab a Spidey-themed PlayStation 5.

Sony and Insomniac Games unveiled that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 fans will soon be able to get their hands on a new themed DualSense controller, cover plates, or a bundle which includes both, the game itself, and an actual PlayStation 5 console.

The red and black design incorporates the threat of Venom and the symbiote as, over on the PlayStation blog, the team teased it’ll be “one of the most formidable challenges that our two Spider-Men face”. The design reflects the symbiote taking over Peter Parker. On the front of the plates, the black tendrils threaten to overpower the classic Spidey red while on the back, the symbiote has completely taken over. A similar design can be seen on the DualSense controller.
“The design was inspired by the in-game symbiote that’s taking over the console and controller, but you can still see some of the underlying red under the tendrils,” said senior art director Jacinda Chew. “This represents the various ways players will experience the symbiote takeover in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. It’s a constant push and pull for dominance whether it’s internal or external and the outcome is not certain.”
The team also delved into some of the PS5 specific features the game will take advantage of including pinpointing sounds from bio-electric powers and dangerous enemy attacks via the 3D audio, and feeling the action of web-swinging through the DualSense’s haptic feedback.
