PlayStation rolling out major update we've wanted for years

PlayStation rolling out major update we've wanted for years

We all get a participation award!

Finally, it seems that Sony PlayStation is rolling out an update that will add a feature that we've been waiting years for and it involves some of our favourite classic titles.

Since the release of the PlayStation 2 in 2000, Sony has implemented backwards compatibility allowing us to play retro classics of a previous generation. In 2008, Sony implemented trophy support for select PlayStation 3 titles following in the footsteps of the Xbox 360 achievements by rewarding players with a glorious ping for achieving in-game milestones.

However, despite being able to play a selection of original PlayStation, PS2 and PSP games, those retro classics did not include trophy support ( some PS2 games on PS4 do have trophies). Which to be fair, is fine because I think most of us don't play classic games to hear that glorious trophy ping.

Yet, I won't complain if Sony decides to implement trophy support for classic titles that are playable on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. So with that in mind, it seems like Sony is on the verge of adding trophies to some of our favourite PS1 classic titles including the likes of Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare, Toy Story 3, Star Wars: The Clone Wars and more, all of which are included in PlayStation Plus.

“Trophy support is being added for third-party classics,” announced brunopcosta1 to fellow members on the Reddit thread. As you can imagine, this news (yet to be officially confirmed by Sony) has gone down well with gamers.

“Okay....This is the biggest surprise today,” replied Inevitable_Owl_1869 with ShaneTVZ adding “I prayed for this and it happened.”

“Great news. Hopefully, trophies will be added to all classics going forward,” replied a hopeful videogamer128, saying what most of us might be thinking. “Oh this is huge,” Furry_Wall exclaimed.

If this happens (and it’s looking likely), it’s certainly great news for PlayStation trophy hunters and fingers crossed it’s a sign of things to come. Now, if Capcom would like to add trophy support to Resident Evil: Director’s Cut, that would make my day.
