A fresh wave of PlayStation hardware is almost upon us, and it’s appealing to many of us with its Midnight Black colour.

Sony is kicking off the year with a bunch of new peripherals and hardware that is swerving away from the signature white of the PS5.

The PlayStation 30th anniversary celebrations are continuing into 2025.

The new Midnight Black collection is formed of a new Dual Sense Edge controller, new Pulse headset and ear buds, plus a PlayStation Portal.

They’re all incredibly sleek and swish, perfect for those who find the white to be glaring and ideal of dust (that’s me, I’m them).

These new Sony products will be released on 20 February, but all are up for pre-order on 16 January.

They can be ordered directly from PlayStation, but can also be found via various retailers.

Sadly, it appears that only the premium PlayStation hardware will get the Midnight Black effect, meaning that the standard Dual Sense isn’t on offer.

If you’re in the market for a new controller, it’s only the Dual Sense Edge - the much more expensive option - that will be up for order.

Those feeling nostalgic for the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 era after the recent 30th anniversary of the brand will likely have their eyes on this collection as it harks back to those heady days.

It’s a bit odd that PlayStation decided to ship these after the Christmas period when most people will have been shopping for new accessories, but die-hard fans will be thrilled with the option regardless.

I’ve had my eye on a PlayStation Portal for some time, and as I missed the 30th anniversary edition, I might try for a Midnight Black version.

You’ll probably need to be quick, as the collection is likely to sell out swiftly when pre-orders open.
