PlayStation drops free store credit for users following outage

An easy way to get some points

Following the PlayStation Stars outage back in June, Sony has come up with a way to give back to its users.

Sony’s free loyalty scheme PlayStation Stars suddenly went offline after an update on 14 June with the service remaining down for a couple of weeks.

With no apparent cause and no explanation offered by Sony, members could no longer earn or access their reward points and free store credit.

However, PS Stars is now back up and running and to apologise to its user base, Sony is currently running two campaigns which will reward participants with 50 reward points.

The two campaigns task members with playing two titles: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - The Definitive Edition and Dredge.

By booting up these titles and playing for around just five minutes, you can bag yourself 50 reward points after activating the challenge.

So, if you already have these games, then it costs nothing to get your hands on points which can be redeemed for free store credit.

As a result, you could get money off that new game you have been eyeing up.

Perhaps most bizarrely, the campaign which tasks you with playing GTA: San Andreas can also be triggered by playing literally any other game so it seems at least 50 reward points are guaranteed.

With other PlayStation Stars incentives convincing users to buy games outright, this one is a lot easier as you only have to play the selected games to earn your rewards.

Not only that but PS Stars is free to join, unlike PlayStation Plus which requires a paid subscription.
