Could Sony be reinvigorating a long-dormant franchise? It seems the company has entered into a partnership with developer, People Can Fly, with the aim of creating a new title.
While this game is currently codenamed ‘Project Delta,’ many fans believe it could be a return to SOCOM, a franchise once popular on older PlayStation consoles.
SOCOM could be making a comeback with this new partnership
The last outing for the SOCOM series was in 2011, with SOCOM 4: US Navy SEALs, since then it has been absent from Sony’s consoles.

Spotted by eagle eye fans on Reddit, People Can Fly are reportedly using a “Sony IP” for their new game, and consider the developer has made a fair few shooters, fans are thinking SOCOM is coming back.
Of course, this is speculation, as no details have emerged from either Sony or the developer.
There are a few other dormant Sony IPs this could be, as noted by trapdave1017, who said, “Has to be either Socom or Killzone since this company mostly makes shooters, Resistance as well is a good guess.”
While SOCOM is leading the way as the community’s guess, we can’t write off Resistance or Killzone, as they both have an ardent fanbase.

“People can fly would be perfect for a Resistance game or even Killzone,” mentioned Benzokleenex.
“Please God, let it be Resistance!” exclaimed Neat_Appointment_435.
To be honest, any return to an older franchise will be welcomed by fans, as Sony has been sat on a goldmine for such a long time.
During the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 era, Sony was constantly trying new things across a variety of genres, but in recent years they’ve stayed on a safer path.

Hopefully, this is a push to revisit some older series, regardless of what People Can Fly are working on directly.
News is sure to develop soon, and perhaps we’ll get a better idea on what they’re cooking.
