PlayStation 6 coming sooner than we thought, Sony reportedly showing console off

PlayStation 6 coming sooner than we thought, Sony reportedly showing console off

Well, there it is

It sounds as if the PlayStation 6 is coming even sooner than any of us expected.

PlayStation only announced the beefed up PlayStation 5 Pro a few weeks ago, but a new report suggests the top brass at Sony are already quietly making moves to unveil the PlayStation 6 to various development partners.

Russian journalist Anton Logvinov posted the update on his Telegram account (via ComicBook.com), where he claimed Sony has been showing the PlayStation 6 - or a prototype - to partners at Tokyo Game Show.

It's unclear whether Sony was showing off PlayStation 6 games or enhanced PlayStation 5 games running on the console, but the idea the console was there in any capacity would certainly suggest the next generation of PlayStation is coming sooner than anyone would have expected. Or, indeed, wanted.

The most prevalent leaks and rumours put the PlayStation 6 release window at 2028, which would make sense.

The last few console generations have had a lifespan of around 7-8 years, and the PS5 Pro releasing soon marks a clear mid point for this generation.

Assuming the PlayStation 6 really is still four years away, it's feasible that Sony could be showing a version of the hardware to developers so they can start getting ready.

For now, we have to take this rumour with a hefty pinch of salt. If the PlayStation 5 still has four years left, I think we can relax knowing the second half of its life will really start to see the console come into its own.

I mean, have you seen the trailer for Ghost Of Yotei? That game is so pretty I could cry just thinking about it.
