PlayStation 6 price and release date is seriously stressing gamers out

Let's live in the present, guys!

The PlayStation 5 Pro may have only been out for just over a month but attention has already turned to the future of the much-loved Sony console brand.

Released on 7 November, the PlayStation 5 Pro is Sony’s latest console and offers a lot more power compared to its base model.

With many studios offering PS5 Pro patches for AAA games, the console has gone down surprisingly well, especially as it did not fall victim to stock shortages and scalpers like its PlayStation 5 predecessor.

However, despite the Pro hardly being out of the box, Sony fans have already turned their attention to the future of the PlayStation or more specifically, the PlayStation 6.

The discussion kicked off recently over on r/playstation when one user shared their thoughts on when the next Sony console would be released.

“2024 is almost over. It’s almost 2025. By the time the PS5 Pro isn’t actually scalped to oblivion and the average person can actually get their hands on one, the PS6 will probably be coming out in like 2.5 years, maybe 3 years tops,” user Ecstatic-Beginning-4 shared.

They go on to explain that it is no secret that Sony sells its hardware at a loss and makes the money back courtesy of game sales and as a result, they expect the PS6 to actually cost less than the PS5 Pro.

“If the base PS6 ends up costing $700, it means less people own the console so less people buy games on the console because they don’t own the console to buy games for,” they continued.

“It means most likely the PS6 will actually cost less than the PS5 Pro.”

As you can imagine, these thoughts soon kick-started a debate and fellow users took to the comments to offer their input.

“I don't think this will be scalped. I imagine it will be easy to get one,” one user added, which would make its launch a lot smoother than the PS5 back in 2020.

Another user said: “Why get the Pro when you could get the PS6? Why get the PS6 when you could wait for the PS6 Pro? Why get the PS6 Pro when you can wait for the PS7? The cycle never ends. At some point you just have to buy something and enjoy it.”

They are not wrong.

With modern-day gaming improving at a rapid rate, the future remains uncertain but for now, let us enjoy what we already have and stop worrying about the future.
