With Sony currently working on the PlayStation 5 Pro, it has recently been revealed that it will feel 100% more powerful than its predecessor.
Although it has not yet been officially revealed, the PlayStation 5 Pro is set to be Sony’s mid-generation refresh console, offering users a boost to the original 2020 hardware.

Although it has already been reported that the Pro’s RAM and CPU won’t see much of an improvement, a recent discussion with Alderon Games founder Matthew Cassells reveals that it will still feel a whole lot more powerful.

Talking over on the Moore’s Law is Dead Broken Silicon podcast, Cassells shared that the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaler will dramatically improve games.
Speaking in particular about titles released from Alderon, he went on to explain that the Pro’s new specs will allow the team to activate ray tracing if the game manages to run at 60FPS on the base model.
Not only that but the PSSR will help the new piece of hardware feel even more powerful and is the main reason it will be an improvement from the base model.
The PlayStation 5 Pro will also reportedly include better resolution, making games even clearer than before.

However, with Unreal Engine 5 needing consoles to continually upscale, it remains to be seen if it will manage to keep up until the arrival of the PlayStation 6.
Luckily, Cassells also shared that the Pro’s lack of improvement to the CPU and RAM won’t be too much of a problem.
There are, however, improvements to the GPU which could see some future releases able to run at ultra settings with developers able to release titles with 120Hz modes.
With the PlayStation 5 Pro only a mid-gen refresh and set to be even more powerful, it remains to be seen how many changes will be introduced for the PlayStation 6 in the future.
