The digital age can mostly be a wonderful thing but with all the new features that the likes of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S bring, there are some major pitfalls we seriously want to avoid.
While the digital age has negatively impacted physical media in a major way (please buy physical games, if you don't want them to die and let publishers control what you own), it can have a major positive impact in your home too.

With less overhead costs such as production and shipping, digital games should be cheaper than physical video games and mostly, that hardly seems the case, unless you are savvy with discount sales. But some new-age features can become a great tactic to save money.

Take for example when it comes to game sharing. Both I and my son own a PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. There are quite a few games that we both like to play. Before digital game sharing became a thing, we would have to buy two copies of the same game, unless we wanted to pass the disc to and from, which also meant that we couldn't play the same game at the same time.
However, with game sharing, he can have my digital accounts on his consoles, meaning that he has full access to all the games I own and that means no passing of any games and we can play them at the same time. It’s a fantastic concept for trusted family members, especially when living under the same roof.
That being said, there are some major pitfalls if you can be too trusting with the wrong people, as explained by Reddit user ManaByte. “Stop sharing your account!” they exclaimed.

“It seems like every day we get posts in this sub from someone begging for help because they had their account "hacked" and the "hacker" changed their 2FA settings and locked them out of their account,” they continued.
“99% of the time, the reality is discovered that the OP shared their account with someone to game share and that's why they were "hacked" after they had an argument or something and the person they never met decides to steal the account.”
“The ability to "game share" isn't to share games, it's there so you can have multiple consoles in the same house with a single library. It's not to share games with your Discord friend from the other side of the country,” they warned.
Thankfully, much of the Reddit thread was in agreement. Don’t get me wrong, gaming sharing is a great feature for multiple reasons, but if you do it, make sure that you have nothing less than 100% trust in that other person.
