According to the vice president of Product, Game and Player Experiences at Sony Interactive Entertainment, 50% of players are completely ignoring one of the PlayStation 5’s modes.
Thank you in advance to MP1ST’s Alex Co for the original story!
As revealed by Cory Gasaway, more than half of the PS5’s user base isn’t using the Rest Mode function.

“We gained a lot of insights about how players interact with their PS5 system between play sessions,” Gasaway stated, “A small example is we had an internal hypothesis that far more people would put their console into rest mode than would fully shut it down each time between their play sessions.”
“As it turned out, it was actually about 50/50 between the two options between all our players. So, what that meant was for about 50% of our users, when they booted up, if they were in the US, they were landing on our Explore page, and if they were outside the US they were landing on the game page for the last game that they have played.”

So, the thing that’s immediately confusing me about this is Sony's conclusion.

It's implied that they’re surprised that people aren’t just… leaving their PS5s in rest mode all the time?
I'm on the opposite side of the fence. Do some of you heathens just leave your console in rest mode overnight? Your electric bills must be bloody massive.
Also, what if there’s a power cut during the night or something? Think of all your in-game progress! Think of the terrifying warning sign that pops up in such an eventuality.
To be fair, I used to leave my PS2 running overnight when I was playing a game too… but in my defence, that’s because I didn’t own a memory card.
