We've all been there: you have a rare bit of downtime and want to dive into a new game. You browse the PlayStation Store, find a title you've been meaning to play that's on sale, and pick it up.
That's where it all starts to go wrong. You effectively spend the day watching your new PlayStation game download at painfully slow speeds. By the time it's actually ready to play? Your day off is pretty much over.
The good news is that it's actually possible to drastically increase your PlayStation 5 download speeds by tweaking one small setting. You'll definitely want to do this soon, given the sheer number of bangers PlayStation Plus is currently throwing out for subscribers - not to mention the impending release of Baldur's Gate 3 and Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

So what do you need to do? It's actually super easy, barely an inconvenience. There are doubtless some of you reading this who already know what to do and think it's painfully obvious, but not everyone is gifted with an aptitude for technology.
The PlayStation 5 Wi-Fi network is typically set to 2.4GHz. You're going to want to change it to 5GHz. That's it. Doing so will boost your download speeds, give you a more stable connection when playing online, and generally make your life better and happier. Maybe mot that last one.
So what do we need to do? First up, disconnect your console from the internet and make it forget the network from the menu.
After that, complete the following steps:
- Go to Settings and Select Network.
- Now select Set Up Internet Connection.
- Select your network and press the Options button on the controller, then choose Forget Network.
- Press Triangle to scan networks, select your network and sign in.
- When connected, select network and press Options again, then choose Wi-Fi Frequency and set it to 5GHz.
- Go back a screen and then choose Connection Status, then View Connection Status to check if your PS5 is using 5GHz. You can also select Test Internet Connection to make double make sure.
And that's it. Easy, quick, and so much better for your PS5 and patience in the long run!
