The next Spider-Man video game adventure will give players more freedom than ever before, including options to make the game easier.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 plans to expand on everything the previous game, and Spider-Man: Miles Morales, introduced, new gadgets, new locations, and powerful abilities like the symbiote suit.

While all the new stuff will be exciting for veteran players, it could prove to be too complicated for a casual audience since the combat already requires perfect timing and gadget management, especially on higher difficulties.

Some accessibility features were included in Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered to address these issues. These included automatically advancing through QTE segments, aiming with a toggle rather than holding down the trigger and skipping the game’s various puzzles entirely.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 plans to expand on this list with additional options, all of which are designed to make the gameplay experience tailored to a wider range of players.

New features include:

Audio: screen reader support will read aloud all on-screen text in menus.

Captions: on-screen captions and audio descriptions are available for cinematic scenes.

Gameplay: you can choose to slow down the action to 70%, 50%, or 30% of the full speed; switching back to regular speed at any time.

The combat speed reduction is a great feature for those that struggle with fast-paced action. It’ll open up more opportunities to effectively counter enemies, plan your moves and generally make the whole experience less daunting, especially when enemies get tougher and more plentiful as the game progresses. It’ll presumably work for boss fights too, which can be a challenge for inexperienced players.

It’s great to see Insomniac Games put in the time and effort to make Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 an experience everyone can enjoy.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will release for the PlayStation 5 on the 20th of October 2023.
