It will surprise few that there’s a lot of anticipation as to what Uncharted and The Last of Us studio, Naughty Dog will do next. However, a recent quote from Neil Druckmann has set the bar exceedingly high.

The bar will always be high regarding Naughty Dog having delivered critically acclaimed series’ such as Uncharted and The Last of Us. However, during a recent interview with Sony, a quote that garnered a mixed reaction from the video game community resulted in Druckmann claiming he had been taken out of context.

Naughty Dog has subtly teased that The Last of Us Part III will arrive at some point but we don't know whether it will be a PlayStation 5 or next-gen release. Whether the next post-apocalyptic Clicker-infested sequel will be a groundbreaking release, remains to be seen.

In the aforementioned quote that has been taken out of context, Duckmann said: “I’m eager to see how this new game resonates, especially following the success of The Last of Us, as it could redefine mainstream perceptions of gaming.”

This does indeed lead us to believe that whether it's Uncharted, The Last of Us or something new entirely, Naughty Dog’s next game is going to be groundbreaking for the video game industry.

In a Twitter post, Druckmann shared a full transcript of the quote used in the Sony interview and due to his long-winded answers, the Naughty Dog co-president claims the interview was trimmed down resulting in the misquote.

In editing my rambling answers in my recent interview with SONY, some of my words, context, and intent were unfortunately lost. Well, here's the full long rambling answer for the final question about our future game... pic.twitter.com/tVuxX3LYJF

“In editing my rambling answers in my recent interview with Sony, some of my words, context, and intent were unfortunately lost. Well, here's the full long rambling answer for the final question about our future game,” he tweeted.

Of course, Druckmann and his team will have full confidence that all of its games will knock it out of the park, as previously proven. But I think it’s fair to say that Druckmann's “redefine mainstream perceptions of gaming” comment wasn't quite as arrogant as some may have assumed.

At the time of writing, Naughty Dog hasn't announced any release dates for The Last of Us Part III or whether we’ll be getting a new Uncharted game anytime soon.
