With the news that Sony is in talks to acquire Kadokawa Corporation, this could see the next Elden Ring instalment become a PlayStation exclusive.

According to a recent report by Reuters, Sony is officially in talks to acquire the Japanese media conglomerate which just happens to own the maker of the highly-successful Elden Ring, FromSoftware.

At least Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is available to play across all platforms.

With information from two separate sources, if the deal goes through, contracts could be signed over the upcoming weeks.

Although Sony already owns 2% of Kadokawa’s stocks. The media company is estimated to have stocks worth up to $2.7 billion.

If the deal goes through, developer FromSoftware will have Sony as its new big boss and as a result, any future releases from the studio could become PlayStation exclusives.

As you can expect, this news would not go down well with the rest of the gaming community but on the flip side, exclusive titles never really stay exclusive for long these days.

The news broke overnight and since then, people have been flocking to threads such as r/PS5 to share their thoughts over the potential acquisition.

“As long as it doesn’t negatively impact Miyazaki and the creative minds behind games at FromSoftware,” one user shared.

Another said: “If Bloodborne, TLOU2, Death Stranding, Journey, etc. tell me anything, it's that Sony is pretty good at letting studios do what they want if they have proven themselves to deliver quality games, which FromSoft more than have.”

Of course, the general consensus was the hope that this potential acquisition could increase the chance of that infamous Bloodborne remaster.

However, both Sony and Kadokawa have yet to comment on the news so it remains to be seen if it is true and if so, when we can expect the deal to be made.
