It’s that time of the year when Sony launches its annual Days of Play event, packed full of discounts on games, hardware, subscriptions and more. Right here, we’ll let you know about some of the best hardware bargains going.

We’re all well aware that maintaining our hobby of playing our beloved video games is never cheap. Especially in this day and age, when games and consoles keep seeing price hikes regularly, including PlayStation Plus.

We’ve never known a console generation to get more expensive, the older it gets. Typically, as we near the end of a console generation, hardware begins to drop in price as we prepare for the new shiny toys on the horizon. But nope, not in this gen.

Thankfully, as long as you’re a patient gamer, there are plenty of bargains to take advantage of, such as the current Days of Play promotion. In this feature, we’ll let you know about some of the best discounts on consoles, accessories and collectors’ editions currently available on Sony’s PlayStation Direct website.

PlayStation 5 Consoles

You can pick up a refurbished PlayStation 5 Slim model for £479.99, which is £90 cheaper than a brand new model, which would be £569.99. It has a 1TB SSD, comes with a DualSense controller, all the cables you need, nice and boxed. Refurbished consoles also come with a 12-month warranty for peace of mind. At the time of writing, new solo consoles, including the PS5 Pro, are not discounted on PlayStation Direct.

You can, however, pick up a brand-new PlayStation 5 Slim model, but it is the Limited Edition Ghost of Yotei (Black) version for £519.99, which comes bundled with the game and a Limited Edition controller. Buying this bundle works out to be £120 cheaper than buying each separately. These consoles aren't technically in the Days of Play sale, but they can both save you money nonetheless.

PlayStation 5 Console Covers

If you want your PlayStation 5 Slim model to have more personality, then you might be pleased to know that the console covers have also been discounted. The HyperPop Collection has been reduced from £64.99 to £54.99, and the gorgeous Ghost of Yotei (Gold version) is reduced from £54.99 to £44.99.

PlayStation VR2

If you’ve been tempted to check out the virtual reality of the PlayStation 5, but have been put off by its full price, now might be the time to jump in. You can pick up a brand-new PS VR2 for £309.99, instead of £399.99 bundled with Horizon Call of the Mountain. For some reason, the PS VR2 on its own is the same price with the same discount as the aforementioned bundle. I know which one I’d go for.

PlayStation 5 DualSense Edge Controller

Right now, you can save £30 on Sony’s take on the professional controller, it’s DualSense Edge, compatible with PlayStation 5 and PC. You can pick up the White or Midnight Black version for £169.99 instead of £199.99.

If you don’t want the Edge version, there are plenty of options available for the standard controller, in all sorts of snazzy colours and limited edition designs. You can pick up a controller in White, Midnight Black, Cosmic Red and more for £44.99 instead of £64.99. There’s a variety of chrome colours for £49.99 instead of £69.99.

The newly released HyperPop Collection is reduced from £74.99 to £54.99. If you want something inspired by some of your favourite games, the God of War 20th Anniversary, Ghost of Yotei, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and Marathon Limited Edition DualSense controllers are reduced from £74.99 to £54.99.

PlayStation 5 Access Controller

The award-winning and highly customisable accessibility Access controller has been reduced from £79.99 to £49.99.

“Create new ways to play with this highly customisable controller kit for PS5 consoles, designed to help those with disabilities play games more comfortably, for longer,” reads its description. “Built for easy access, the controller can be operated from any 360° orientation and used on flat surfaces, or be attached to an AMPS* pattern mount.”

If you like glorious collectables and limited edition goodies for the video games you love, then PlayStation Direct has a few more discounts that you might be interested in. The collector editions for the first-party exclusives, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ghost of Yotei and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach have all been reduced from £219.99 to £129.99.

Along with the game, other physical items and DLC, each of these editions have a unique standout collectable that you can’t find anywhere else. The Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Collector’s Edition comes with a statue of Venom and Spider-Man fighting. Ghost of Yotei comes with a stunning Ghost Mask. The Days of Play promotion ends on 10 June 2026.
