Stardew Valley gets small ‘expansion’ you can download now

The cosy gamers yearn for the mines

Stardew Valley’s solo developer Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone is taking a small break from updating the game.

It’s for a very good reason though.

Barone will still ensure that Stardew Valley runs smoothly across all platforms, but he’s currently busy beavering away on his long-awaited follow-up title Haunted Chocolatier.

Haunted Chocolatier isn’t too dissimilar from Stardew Valley; it’s essentially a darker version of that game.

Players will be able to befriend ghosts as well as the spooky town’s locals and if you hadn’t guessed, you’ll assume the role of a chocolatier instead of running a farm.

Many of us are excited to finally get our hands on the game, whenever that may be.

If you’re craving something new in the meantime though, perhaps I can satisfy that desire with this new Stardew Valley mod.

‘Miner’s Retreat - A Quarry Expansion’ is exactly what it sounds like, a small expansion.

Created by NexusMods user Azathii, it adds a new player home with its own ore-spawning cave in the basement.

“Miner's Retreat adds a cosy new player home, nestled in a peaceful, ore spawning cave found within the quarry,” the synopsis reads.

“The home comes complete with a minecart in the basement, as well as its own mine elevator, making it an ideal location to sleep in if you're running low on time after a long, hard day in the mines.”

Is this a game-changing mod? Certainly not but if you’ve been beavering away in the vanilla version for years, it could be the little boost of freshness you’re yearning for.

As the mod is hosted on NexusMods, it’s free to download for PC users.

Unfortunately, us console players will simply have to stick to what we know.

It goes without saying that we’re keeping an eye on Haunted Chocolatier’s development and will bring you updates as and when they arise.
