One could argue there are brutal moments already incorporated into Skyrim. However, nobody would really describe them as visceral.

This next-gen update for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim intends to change that by including gory moments you’ll not soon forget.

Anyone of a squeamish disposition look away now.

The NexusMods creation ‘Next-Gen Decapitations’ ensures you get up close and personal with the blood splatter of your foes.

Here are some of the best Skyrim wins and fails, folks

Although the mod is intended to “fix all known crashes related to decapitations”, it’ll also “enhance the gameplay experience”.

What this means is that you can expect “NPC helmets being ejected, a customisable spinning effect when the head flies off”, and “flying severed heads”.

Not that we want to condone violence here, but goddamn, these animations are bloody fantastic.

Don’t just take our word for it, take the words of the fans as well.

“H O L Y S H I T ! The game's combat became so much more impactful even while playing into the vanilla play style,” shared Zeldoris57.

“The slow motion effect on kill adds a whole layer of tension and dramatisation when the kill move is performed in cinematic. Definitely a must have on ANY modlist!”

We could post other reviews left by gamers, but few capture their appreciation of the mod quite like that comment does.

Having discovered where dead NPCs go, we can’t help but wonder how many headless characters are about to be piled up there.

Either way, their fate is one we don’t envy.

The ‘Next-Gen Decapitations’ mod was created by Seb263 and is free to download.

If you want to check out the details before committing, you’ll need to do so while logged into your account; given the subject matter, it’s restricted.

When you next play Skyrim, make sure not to lose your head while severing others.
