Hogwarts Legacy 2025 update is unplayable for many disappointed fans

Console-specific wizardry

Plenty of Wizarding World fans have been left disappointed following news of a huge update coming to Hogwarts Legacy this month, but there may be some hope on the horizon.

Yesterday, Warner Bros. Games and Avalanche Software announced that a hefty update is coming to Hogwarts Legacy that will change the game for millions of fans worldwide. However, there is one major caveat concerning the upcoming content update, it's PC only.

There's still no confirmation on the existence of a potential Hogwarts Legacy Definitive Edition, but it was instead announced yesterday that official modding support is finally coming to the game.

Hogwarts Legacy modding being officially supported by the developer and publisher is huge news for fans of the Wizarding World. We can surely expect to see fantastic mods that bring the likes of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley to the game, but also a whole host of marvellous concoctions by the community.

Mods being supported in Hogwarts Legacy will blow Pandora’s Box open wide for better or worse. Unfortunately, as is the nature of most mods, this upcoming update is a PC exclusive and many fans are disappointed by that realisation, at least for now.

This news may disappoint some fans, but there is a glimmer of hope, at least according to the wording used in the PC modding update trailer for Hogwarts Legacy.

In the trailer, the text “Mods currently only available on PC” appear and the word “currently” is especially an interesting choice. This might suggest that, at the very least, the developers are working on the possibility of eventually bringing mods to Hogwarts Legacy on consoles.

Mods aren't primarily associated with consoles, however, as Bethesda has proven with the likes of Skyrim, Fallout 4 and Starfield, mods on these platforms are possible, so if Avalanche Software were to make that happen with Hogwarts Legacy, that would be huge.

“Hopefully, this comes to consoles, similar to the Creation Club in Skyrim,” said Redditor FeltzMusic.

“Games with mod libraries have been increasing on consoles, so I imagine Avalanche wouldn’t want to waste the opportunity,” replied DistantLandscapes. “They’ll probably just have to create a more restricted version to comply with Microsoft and especially Sony."

“There may be limits on what kinds of mods are available for console (especially for PlayStation), but I wouldn't be surprised to see mod availability on Xbox before the end of the year,” claimed Xeruas.

“As a PS5 owner, I can't find words to describe the FOMO I'm experiencing right now. I mean I know that mods were already there for PC, but now that there's actual official support, it makes me a bit envious,” Bubblebubbleitsme exclaimed. “Hopefully, they make it available for consoles too.”

The free PC modding update for Hogwarts Legacy will be available later this week on 30 January. We’ll keep you posted if we hear any news on modding coming to consoles.
