A free visual overhaul for Crimson Desert is available to download now, and it’s quite the game-changer, it has to be said.

Developed and published by studio Pearl Abyss, the fantasy RPG Crimson Desert has been years in the making, following its announcement in 2019. Judging by its reception, it’s a game that has been well worth the wait.

Furthermore, it’s probably worth mentioning that Crimson Desert was announced a year after The Elder Scrolls VI, and not only has Pearl Abyss beaten Bethesda Softworks to the punch, but it’s also knocked it out of the proverbial park.

Crimson Desert Is Welcomed By The Community

At launch, according to SteamDB, Crimson Desert had over 276,00 concurrent players. Those numbers do not include console, but I would imagine they’d be similar, pound for pound. On the aggregate website Metacritic, it’s also scored 77 from critics and 8.8 from users.

A lot of the praise across the board for Crimson Desert relates to its sense of adventure in its huge open world, deep combat, lush visuals and plenty of fun silliness.

Crimson Desert is available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. However, as fun as this game is for all platforms, the PC version has a few advantages over its console counterparts.

For starters, depending on how powerful your PC is, Crimson Desert can have superior graphics and performance. What’s more, PC players can take advantage of the ever-vibrant modding community.

Crimson Desert Mod Enhances the Visuals of Pywel

One such mod is called ‘Visual Redux Reshade’, created by Skytex, and it’s free to download now via Nexusmods. This mod improves the visuals of Crimson Desert by enhancing its colour balance, shading, light effects and more.

Judging by some of the screenshots on the NexusMods page, this mod makes quite a big difference to the overall visuals, and if you have a capable PC, it looks like one that should be under consideration to check out.

We Scored Crimson Desert 8/10!

“Crimson Desert is by no means a perfect game. It’s an amalgamation of perhaps slightly too many ideas, and that makes for a weirdly paced experience that demands a lot of the player without offering much in the way of help,” said GAMINGbible’s Kate in her review. “And yet, it left me in awe more times than anything else I’ve played in recent memory with its dazzling open-world.”
