Within the video game industry, there are not many franchises as big and as beloved as The Legend of Zelda and it doesn't matter whether it's a new game, remake or remaster, fans can never get enough adventures of Link and Princess Zelda.
The most recent game in the series to be released is 2023’s The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the sequel to 2017’s Breath of the Wild for the Nintendo Switch. Now fans are wondering what’s next for the series and many are hoping that we’ll see the release of remakes or remasters that have been speculated for a few years.

The remakes and remasters that fans would love to see ported on the Nintendo Switch are none other than The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, originally released for the Nintendo GameCube and Wii in 2002 and 2006, respectively. However, both of these titles have seen HD remasters for the Wii U already, so is this why Nintendo is seemingly reluctant for a more modern release?

Back in 2021, reports were making the rounds from various video game media outlets that both The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess were getting new remasters for the Nintendo Switch later that year. Sadly, three years have now passed with no release in sight.
Yet to this day, fans are still hoping that those remasters will arrive soon and believe Nintendo may have been sitting on those releases for years. Redditor DrAwesomeX shared a tweet from industry insider MbKKssTBhz5, that might suggest that at least from the perspective of Twilight Princess, the Nintendo Switch remaster is good to go but is yet to be released.
“There is a project at Nintendo with the codename Edward,” tweeted MbKKssTBhz5. “This might be related to the rumours of a new Zelda series title.”
Then when a follower suggested that the secret project might be The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, MbKKssTBhz5 replied “I do not know why Nintendo is not releasing it yet.”

This of course is very little to go on but some believe that it’s a hint that The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess remaster may have actually been ready to be released in 2021 but Nintendo could be holding out to launch it on the Switch 2.
If this is a strategy by Nintendo it certainly makes sense. Nintendo knows that fans are desperate to see the likes of The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess remasters and if both are good to go now, it means that the hype can be capitalised with the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2.
Hopefully, Nintendo will make the announcements sooner rather than later because I can’t take the suspense. In the meantime, we can still play The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess on systems including the Nintendo GameCube, Wii and Wii U.
