Gotta catch 'em all

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet players are benefitting from a mass outbreak update right now, and it’s great news for shiny hunters.

While I've never been particularly fussed about catching a shiny variant of every Pokémon, I respect the hustle, and the way some of them are designed are better than the base versions too.

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet arguably made it easier than ever to shiny hunt, more so with updates like this.

Currently, there’s a mass outbreak of specific shiny Pokémon, so if any of the below are missing from your collection, now’s the time to go out and find them; just don’t level them with an overpowered Pokémon before you get a chance to catch them

The three Pokémon that have had their shiny rates boosted are Wiglett, Growlithe, and Swablu, a weird trio but hey, we’re not complaining.

The shiny designs for these are quite cool. Wiglett's white skin turns gold, Growlithe gets a yellow coat rather than orange, and Swablu also turns yellow/gold rather than the usual blue.

You’ll have to go to different parts of the map to find them all, with Wiglett appearing in Paldea, Growlithe emerging in Kitakami, and Swablu popping up around Blueberry Academy.

There’s no mad rush to get them either, as the event will run from right now to 8 May, so you’ve got a good week to get out there and grab them.

Other shiny Pokémon will also be available as usual, but obviously without the enhanced rates that the above trio have.

For those looking to complete their Paldean Pokédex before Pokémon Legends: Z-A comes out, you’ve not got too long as the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 game is due to be released by the end of the year.

When it does drop, we’ll be catching and training all over again, a vicious cycle that’ll be around for as long as the Pokémon franchise is.
