Gen 2 is back

It’s been a long time coming, but we now have a sequel to Pokémon Emerald.

We all have our favourite games in the Pokémon franchise, but few can deny just how fantastic Pokémon Emerald was, and still is.

Now, a whopping 20 years later, fans have received a surprise sequel to this widely praised instalment.

A Pokémon Crystal romhack has been created that’s said to be “perfect”.

It’s a bold claim to make, especially when Crystal is already a solid experience.

For those of you out there who know the Pokémon games' release order, yes, Crystal did release before Emerald.

However, this is Crystal Legacy.

Upon sharing the PC sequel, YouTuber SmithPlays Pokémon has received a lot of positive feedback from the fandom.

“You don't understand how amazing this rom is. Gen 2 is the generation I grew up with for the longest time and seeing it be perfected like this brings almost a tear to my eye,” said @Devin7Eleven.

Another user posted, “As a massive fan of Gen 2 I am wildly impressed with the level of detail you added to improving it. Amazing job, will definitely be playing through this nostalgia with a twist.”

“As a Crystal kid, this whole thing warms my heart. Looking forward to seeing where this goes and chances are playing it myself as updates come out,” commented @JamieJamesVT.

All in all, this romhack is a brilliant way to return to this generation of Nintendo’s beloved series, while also ensuring that you experience something new.

All the details on how to download, install, and play Crystal Legacy are provided via the YouTube caption.

This is a “dream come true” for a lot of veteran players.

Of course, if you’re more interested in contemporary Pokémon adventures, leaked starters for a new game have fans head over heels.

It took 20 years, but here we are. It was worth the wait, am I right?
