Nintendo Switch 2 officially revealed by Nintendo, showcase to follow

That certainly looks like a Nintendo Switch

Finally, the day has arrived. Let us lay the speculation to rest.

Just as leaker NateTheHate assured us, Nintendo has finally unveiled the successor to the Nintendo Switch, now officially titled the Nintendo Switch 2.

Yes, it’s the name we all expected, but it wasn’t the only guess thrown around - Super Switch being a popular theory.

A popular theory that’s now been proved wrong.

The Nintendo Switch 2’s reveal feels … odd, namely because it does indeed look a lot like the endless leaked models we’ve all seen surface online.

There’s a slight lack of surprise and fanfare but I don’t want you to think I’m not excited about the console, because I most certainly am.

After months of speculation about the console’s potential specs, Nintendo has now teased exactly what we can expect.

Take a look at the console below.

The reveal came in the form of a two-minute long video showcasing the new console, albeit with very few specifics given about its specs.

The original transforms into its successor, appearing larger and more streamlined in its design.

The Switch 2’s Joy-Cons are black featuring a more rounded shape than what we’re perhaps used to.

While black appears to be the only option for now, I daren’t say more designs will follow in the coming months.

They do feature touches of red (peach?) and blue underneath the thumbstick and running down the side where the Joy-Con connects to the main Switch, a nice nod to the OG Joy-Cons.

As suspected, these Joy-Cons will seemingly clip straight into the screen rather than having to slide down from the top like before.

Nintendo confirmed that more information will follow on the console at a Direct to be held on 2 April.

I’m imagining we’ll hear about Mario Kart 9 on that date as a small clip of an unknown Mario Kart title was shown running on the console right at the end of the trailer.

It was also briefly confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 is backwards compatible with Nintendo Switch titles, as we all hoped.

There’s much we still don’t know about this console but my oh my, what a lovely start.
