Nintendo Switch 2 hardware has one 'flaw' that's left gamers seriously concerned

This could get messy

After the reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, fans were quick to start pouring over the finer details of the hardware.

While many are thrilled with what we’ve seen so far, there is one part of Nintendo’s design that is causing concern.

You can see how the Joy Cons attach to the Switch 2 in the trailer

If you have a close look at the Joy Cons, you’ll notice that while they use magnets to clamp onto the body of the console, they also use a port and input.

Some players are concerned this provides a point of failure for the system, particularly for heavy-handed kids.

“I can tell that this little nub on the Switch 2 will be bending and cracking immediately,” said salesmunn in their thread.

Ditju is thinking the same, “That was what I was thinking. And since it's part of the main body, good luck replacing that.”

Others are quick to point out that Nintendo does think of these things.

User, debikon, says, “There used to be a thing Miyamoto Said, when creating a Nintendo console they used to drop it at an average Child height. This was the approvement test.”

Another Redditor agrees that it’s a flaw in the design - “Should’ve just been some slightly protruding metal pieces, like MacBook. I'm with OP, that part is going to break so fast.”

On the MacBook, the newer chargers use tiny pins, barely a millimetre tall, which also connect via magnets.

Of course, this could be a much more expensive option for Nintendo, hence the connectors.

A ‘console repair expert’ joined in with their view to set some minds at ease; buddha_mjs said, “From the looks of it, the Switch 2 connector is a pliable-rubberized bit with a lot of play in it so it can be wiggled back and forth without breaking.”

We’ll be able to make a better assessment once the public can get their hands on a unit.
