With the Nintendo Switch 2 officially being announced last month, the excitement has been layered with a hint of anxiety as players worry that they may not be able to get their hands on the newest Nintendo console.
Why? Well, because of scalpers, of course.
Check out the Nintendo Switch 2 announcement below!
Famed for purchasing the newest piece of hardware in bulk and then reselling it at a much higher price, scalpers have been the reason why units such as the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch were hard to come by at release.

However, according to a recent statement by Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa, the team has plans in place to avoid the same thing happening with the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2.
When asked how Nintendo planned to release enough units to meet the expected high demand, Furukawa said the following via Nikkei: “We will take all possible measures based on the experience we have accumulated to date (regarding scalpers and the like). We are making preparations."
It is not clear what these preparations may entail but it is reassuring to know that Nintendo is aware of the possible issue.
As for the Nintendo Switch 2, we are expecting to learn more during April’s planned showcase which will feature a full reveal and maybe even a release date for the highly-anticipated handheld.

However, it would seem that the Switch successor was originally planned to be released in late 2024.
According to a previous Nikkei report, Nintendo delayed the release in order to prevent scalpers targeting any potential stock shortages.
As a result, “priority was given to ensure the initial inventory of the successor console and a line-up of software titles at the time of its launch”.
Whilst we might not have an official release date for the Nintendo Switch 2, we can assume that it will go live later this year so let us hope it will be relatively easy to get our hands on the highly-anticipated handheld successor.
