Back in May, Nintendo’s president Shuntaro Furukawa finally confirmed the worst kept secret in gaming history: a new Nintendo console is on its way.
Well, don’t get too excited because rumours are abound that its launch has already been delayed.
Yeah, you read that right, a console that we know basically nothing about and hasn’t had a release date at any point has reportedly already been pushed back.

News of the unconfirmed rumour has already sent the internet into doomposting mode, but not because it’s been delayed… but rather because folks are worried that they won’t be able to even get their hands on one once it does finally drop.
“Whenever this new Nintendo console drops I need every anti scalping measure ever devised to be in full effect”, read a Tweet from user @IntroSpecktive. “Please god… I can’t have another PS5 situation”

“I hope it’s easier to get than the launch model Switch too…” said one reply from user @yung_crono. “I didn’t get one until Christmas of that year since they were sold out instantly, and so GameStop took advantage of it by selling those overpriced bundles nobody wanted.”
Now, things won’t quite be as bad as these users fear for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, one of the reasons the PlayStation 5 ran into so many issues regarding scalping is that it launched during the COVID pandemic.
As very few people could actually physically go into a store and purchase a console in person, it led to online scalpers using botting tools to suck up most of the available stock.

This forced those who were unwilling to wait into paying far above the PS5’s retail price if they were willing to get their hands on one, something a lot of people were actually willing to do considering everyone was stuck inside and bored.
Apparently however, that same rumour that referred to the next Nintendo console being delayed also specified that said delay was actually an anti-scalping measure.
Supposedly, Nintendo want to simultaneously generate enough units prior to its launch and also have a bunch of games available on the first day of its release.
Of course, none of this is concrete, but if it is true it’s nice that the media giant actually seems to have its consumers' interests at heart.
