In this day and age, subscription fees can take up most of our monthly and annual expenses, especially when it comes to those dedicated to gaming.
From Xbox Game Pass to PlayStation Plus, paying a monthly fee allows us access day-one releases as well as a selection of brand-new titles to play at no extra cost.

However, one subscription service which is slightly more underrated, but no less useful, is Nintendo Switch Online.

Available for Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite and Switch OLED users, Nintendo Switch Online allows players to access a bunch of standard titles as well as classics from retro consoles such as the SNES, NES, N64, Game Boy and SEGA Genesis.
Not only that but being a subscriber to Switch Online also allows you access to exclusive profile icons and this time Nintendo is offering a bunch dedicated to The Legend of Zelda franchise.
Available for a limited time before being cycled out for the next franchise, The Legend of Zelda profile icons will allow you to show off some of your favourite characters for absolutely free.
Well, they will cost around 5-10 Platinum coins but as Nintendo’s in-game currency, you would have saved enough over the years just by using the handheld so there is no doubt that you will be able to redeem any icons that appeal to you.

Available from 31 December to 1 January, Switch Online subscribers will gain access to icons dedicated to The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.
Released back in September, Echoes of Wisdom is the most recent entry in the Zelda franchise and was called a “royal success” by our very own Ewan Moore.
“It may have taken nearly four decades, but the first mainline Zelda game with the titular princess in the lead role was worth the wait,” his review read.
“This is a magnificent adventure that whizzes and pops with imagination, and proudly stands shoulder to shoulder with the very best of Link’s tales. If this is the Switch’s final Zelda game - and surely it has to be - then we’re going out on a high. It rules.”
