Future Grand Theft Auto titles could make their way onto Netflix, as the streaming giant reportedly wants a licensing deal with Rockstar’s parent company.

In case you hadn’t heard, Netflix is slowly making its way into the video game industry, seemingly with plans to become a competitor to the likes of Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo.

In a surprising twist though, it seems Netflix has its eyes set on some major franchises to join its streaming service, with arguably the biggest being none other than Grand Theft Auto.

Rockstar’s flagship franchise is still increasingly popular, with the company still reeling in the revenue with Grand Theft Auto V, specifically Grand Theft Auto Online and its microtransactions. Now fans are awaiting the next instalment, Grand Theft Auto VI, and are expecting an announcement later this month, especially following suspicious activity from Rockstar.

Netflix is reportedly looking to publish Grand Theft Auto games on its new gaming streaming service, with Reddit user BrandsXavier sharing the evidence in a post.

It was reported that the streaming giant has “discussed plans to release a game within the popular action-adventure series ‘Grand Theft Auto’ from Take-Two Interactive Software through a licensing deal,” though whether that’ll actually go ahead is another question.

Fans certainly aren’t convinced, with many believing it’d be a terrible move for the series.

“That would be brand suicide. R* is the closest AAA gaming is to having an HBO. Netflix is a joke of a company creatively, even if they have a few hits once in a while. ‘Netflix presents Grand Theft Auto’ is one way to instantly take away the prestige the series has.”

“I admire their effort, It takes some balls to do such a dumb thing. That said, would have paid to be in the aftermath of that talk, email or whatever just to see the laughs.”

“A new top-down GTA before GTA 6 would be out of left field.”

Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on Xbox, PlayStation and PC, and I guess potentially Netflix now.
