Fallout: New California is the New Vegas prequel we always wanted

Another year with no sequel for Fallout: New Vegas, though this prequel will do for now.

Another year is about to pass, with another set to take its place, and we’re still no closer to a sequel for Fallout: New Vegas, though this prequel will do for now.

It’s absolute madness that Bethesda hasn’t brought Obsidian Entertainment back for another Fallout game, or even taken the time to remaster or remake the game using the latest gaming hardware.

Watch the trailer for Fallout New Vegas below

As one of the most popular Fallout game ever made, you’d think Bethesda’s new lord and master Xbox would be pushing for an Xbox-exclusive sequel, though it doesn’t seem like it's on the cards for the time being.

Luckily, fans are striving to do what others won’t, give us more content set within the Mojave wasteland with a new prequel called Fallout: New California.

Now as the name suggests, the expansion revolves around the New California Republic (NCR), one of the many factions you could side with during the main story of Fallout New Vegas. They’re not the most popular faction out there due to their inferior firepower and boring ideologies, and I personally tend to exterminate them during my playthroughs, but Fallout: New California does a good job at making them interesting.

It adds hours and hours of content to the game, complete with new characters who are fully voiced-acted packing several new and original quests for you to complete. You’ll also explore a new area, meet some new warring factions and enlist the help of several companion NPCs. You can take a look at the prequel’s narrative trailer here.

Overall it’s a loving expansion to one of the best RPGs ever made, and despite being developed by fans, it might as well be its own release.

Maybe one day we’ll see an updated Mojave for Xbox Series X/S and PC, whether it be a loving remake of a beloved classic, or a sequel picking up where one of the many endings left off.
