Homelessness, car accidents, and mass layoffs are all on the table in the sequel to Cities Skylines, as developer Colossal Order is aiming for "the most realistic city simulation ever.”

Admittedly, a game that perfectly mirrors the everyday lives and events of real people is a little bit scary, but also incredibly cool. It sounds like the game is going to seriously push the boundaries of simulation, not unlike Life By You, which should make for some interesting worlds and playthroughs.

In a recent blog post, Colossal Order talked about what players can expect when the game launches this October, specifically simulating people going broke, losing their homes and having to live on the street.

They said: “If the household is very poor and unable to find a new apartment and lacks funds to leave the city, they become homeless. In this case, they can live in the city parks until their living situation changes.”

All of this is tied to the in-game economy, which will either be good or bad depending on how well you’ve built your city. The blog post further explained the wonders of industry, saying there’ll be several different types in the game that all contribute to society differently, provided there are people to work there.

If the economy fails and collapses, it’ll be up to you to salvage it, whether it be demolishing certain buildings, intervening in city decisions or hitting the big red button and starting from scratch.

In-game NPCs will reportedly face a variety of dangers, including potentially fatal car wrecks, so you better have some good hospitals in place. The previous game included natural disasters, via DLC, to spice up city life, which will return in this game as well.

Well, if you were planning to escape the harsh realities of everyday life with some Cities Skylines 2 you should think again. That being said it’s still shaping up to be a fun game, and the freedom to make your city however you like is definitely a selling point for those who want to take the game seriously or watch the world burn.

Cities Skylines 2 will release on the 24th of October for PC via Steam, Xbox Series X/S (Day One with Xbox Game Pass) and PlayStation 5.
