Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 wishes it was as incredible as Batman: Arkham City, and I say this as a fan of both. It seems I’m not alone in giving such high praise of the 2012 action game, as the rest of the fandom also agrees that Arkham City is one of the greatest superhero games made. Period. No notes.

Our passion for this Batman game is well known, as we’ve said before we suspect we’ll never get another game quite as intense, gripping, and awe-inspiring as Arkham City. It’s a sentiment the devs must, in part, share because the game recently got a massive overhaul to heighten the challenges you face.

Few games are going strong 11 years later, and while the Switch version has helped reignite passions, Arkham City was still beloved before that. Is it any wonder then, that gamers are saying that Batman: Arkham City is an “absolute masterpiece”? No, the answer is no.

The same gamer also said, “It's the best Arkham game and the Arkham games are the best superhero games.” To which another said, “[Marvel’s] Spider-Man is a modern generic action game with spidey paint. Arkham was a creative masterpiece.”

When Reddit comes together, and continuously uses the term “masterpiece” without an argument ensuing, you know the game is part of the hallowed elite.

“Yes most definitely. The Arkham games aren't just good superhero games, they're just genuinely fantastic, industry-pushing games,” explained user BesetBreeze. “The level design, aesthetic, gameplay, puzzles, etc – everything is so tight, and imo City is the best. The only competition to City is other Arkham games.”

It’s true; whenever I play Arkham City, I can only think of other Arkham games rivalling it, and, even then, Arkham City wins me over because of how much more expansive it is. Granted, Arkham Asylum created a tense, almost claustrophobic atmosphere, but Arkham City managed to make even the vast city feel suffocating and dangerous.
