There are a lot of Assassin’s Creed games out there. With 12 main-story instalments, as well as 17 spin-offs, there is a lot of lore that can be easily forgotten as you traverse from one map to another. However, some AC games have more sticking power than others, like Assassin’s Creed Origins, having been hailed as one of the greatest games. Not just in the franchise, as in ever made.
Currently, many discussions are deep-diving into the upcoming AC titles, ones only known by their codenames. We’re desperate to know any details, however insignificant they might be – we need to know where it’s set, if the future will be involved, and who the main protagonists will be. From rumours of Aztec Empires to the promise of games more akin to Elden Ring, there’s so much to unpack it’s overwhelming.

As thrilling as it all is, there’s a large number of fans who feel like AC hit its peak with AC Origins. “Played the series since AC1 was originally released and when I finally played Origins a year or so ago I was blown away by how good it was,” said Glass_Offer_6344, before adding that it has “superb story/dialogue”. It was a comment swiftly followed by another devoted fan who not only declared AC Origins as “ the best Assassin's Creed game”, but also revealed that they’ll “die on that hill”.

So, if AC Origins is the greatest game (of just the franchise for now), what would be classed as the worst? Fans have thoughts on that too, with the majority claiming that AC Valhalla failed as an AC game, but excelled as an RPG. One of the many – many – issues players have with that instalment is that it’s just “too long”; as much as we want bang for our buck, we want to be able to realistically complete a game as well.
There you have it, the Assassin’s Creed fandom has spoken, with their words final in the decision that Assassin’s Creed Origins is the greatest game, in the franchise and maybe, just maybe, compared to all other video games.
P.S. We aren’t in complete agreement over the last statement, but we do agree it’s a solid gaming experience.
