A new Dead Rising has been teased and it might be a remake of the first game.

Developed by Capcom and inspired by George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead, the original Dead Rising starred charismatic journalist Frank West who had the scoop of a lifetime when the US government tried to cover up shocking experiments gone wrong after hordes of the undead infested Willamette, Colorado.

When Dead Rising was released for the Xbox 360 in 2006, it was considered to be one of the first proper new-gen titles boasting hundreds of on-screen zombies at any one time. Sure the framerate took a hit, but it was truly a pioneering moment for consoles.

For better or worse, Dead Rising would spawn a few sequels over the next several years with its first arriving in 2010 starring Chuck Greene taking us to a casino resort located in Nevada, Las Vegas. Frank West would then return a year later in the spin-off, Dead Rising 2: Off the Record.

In 2013, Dead Rising 3 was released for PC and Xbox One. In fact, it was a console exclusive that was meant to be one of several system-selling titles for Microsoft’s new machine. Don't get us wrong, Nick Ramos was a decent enough protagonist, he just was no Frank West or even Chuck Greene.

Finally, Dead Rising 4 arrived for PC and Xbox One in 2016, then for PS4 in 2017 and would see the return of Frank West once more. Dead Rising 4 tried to deliver big, but it was missing that special spark that made fans fall for the original game.

What’s more, not only did Frank look different, but he was also voiced by a different actor. The new actor, Ty Olsson failed to deliver the same level of charm and charisma as series veteran, Terence J. Rotolo. That would be the last time we’d see another game in this beloved, survival action-horror again.

Thankfully, however, it seems that Capcom might have secret plans to revive this series from the dead. That’s at least according to industry insider and editor at Windows Central, Jez Corden.

Shared in a Reddit post, Corden was responding to a Twitter conversation in relation to the most recent rumours of a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake. “If you're a Dead Rising fan there might be something on the horizon for you too…” replied the journalist.

Corden went on to claim that the new Dead Rising game will be a reboot, which could mean that it will take us back to the Willamette shopping mall. That being said, Corden did state that he was nothing concrete, so we should take the speculation with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise.

In recent years, Capcom has been focused on the Resident Evil and Street Fighter series. Yet with the Dead Rising franchise being the publisher's sixth most successful intellectual property of all time, it would be quite a brain-dead decision not to bring this series back from the dead.

Will Capcom revive Dead Rising? Only time will tell, but if it does, we have no doubts that Frank West will be on the ground to bring us the first scoop. After all, he’s covered wars, you know.
