Last week, Netflix’s Resident Evil series finally premiered, and it’s safe to say that it’s probably just as good as most people were expecting, which is to say, it’s not.
Critic reviews were surprisingly divided, while GameSpot claimed that the series is “the best adaptation of the zombie franchise yet”, Collider slated it, saying that “in a franchise full of poor adaptations, Netflix’s new Resident Evil series might be the worst yet”. However, most viewers on Rotten Tomatoes were in agreement that it’s really not great (although since yesterday, the user score has gone up from 25% to 26% - yay?).
Take a look at the latest trailer for Resident Evil below, to judge for yourself.
As such, you’d imagine that if a second season of the show gets officially confirmed (which, as of now, it’s not been), there wouldn’t be nearly as many people willing to give it the time of day. However, as reported by Polygon, it seems that showrunner Andrew Dabb has a plan in place which might make the viewing figures rocket higher than ever before.

“Over the course of the series, I want to bring everything in,” Dabb said. “Left to my own devices, I want Lady D, I want the plant monster, I want it all. I want everything, but judiciously [and] responsibly over time.”
That’s right, he wants to pull out the big guns. Lady Dimitrescu, of course, is everyone’s favourite 9 feet tall vampire from Resident Evil Village, and her inclusion would undoubtedly get some people to tune in, even for just a glimpse of her and her alone. For reasons.
It’s not the first time that Dabb has mentioned this, either: “Village is part of our lore,” he said in May. "If we wanted to now put a giant vampire woman in season [two], we can.”
So, it sounds like he’s pretty set on the idea, and honestly? Despite the reaction to the show so far, I’m still sure that plenty of fans would love to see this happen. Just don’t ruin Lady D, okay? Then people really will be angry.
