In a surprising twist, Medal of Honor is back with a new remaster.
You may like your Call of Duties or your Battlefields, but there was a long period of time where we all really enjoyed Medal of Honor as the go-to FPS franchise.
Sixteen games in the series were released between 1999 and 2012, which probably even beats Call of Duty for the frequency of annual releases.
However, the franchise has sadly been put on ice for the time being. We did get a great VR spin-off in 2020, but no news of the franchise’s future has become apparent since then.

Thankfully, one of the later Medal of Honor games (and my personal favourite, despite its flaws) has just received a fan-made remaster thanks to a new mod.
Medal of Honor: Airborne Redux is a mod that overhauls Medal of Honor: Airborne to bring it up to modern standards, by “polishing up the gameplay and removing most of the jank”.

As the mod elaborates, “the goal is to provide a more challenging and tactical experience on-par with the best of what the World War II FPS sub-genre has to offer.”
It was originally released in 2020, but has since received updates over the years to improve upon it and make necessary tweaks, with version 2.0 releasing earlier this week.
So, what does the mod actually change? For starters, it fixes the low FOV and awkward leaning/walking controls to make the experience feel a lot smoother. It also rebalances the campaign difficulty to make it a lot more tactical, and less like Call of Duty.
It also makes a few other changes to make the game more compatible with modern PCs, such as supporting more aspect ratios, proper 4K scaling, and full gamepad support.

As for where you can get Medal of Honor: Airborne these days, EA delisted it from Steam a few years back, but you can still buy it on the EA App.
