Mass Effect's Commander Shepard officially returns in new free download

Mass Effect fans are in for a treat with this new Commander Shepard that you can download right now.

Recently, Mass Effect and BioWare fans celebrated N7 Day, a day dedicated to the ever-popular sci-fi RPG from the developer of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire and Dragon Age. Sadly though, there was still no Mass Effect 5 gameplay or release date.

Check out the Mass Effect Legendary Edition trailer below!

The first Mass Effect was released in November 2007 and I remember it very vividly because it was released on Xbox 360 when I was on my honeymoon. Not that it bothered me in the slightest, of course.

However, when I finally got home after not being tormented for days wanting to play Mass Effect, the wait was more than worth it. It may not be Knights of the Old Republic, but this new IP was just as good in my opinion.

Since that time, we’ve been treated to two direct Mass Effect sequels as well as Mass Effect Andromeda, an under-appreciated entry that had a troublesome launch but is now a decent game in its own right. If you’ve not played Mass Effect Andromeda, I recommend checking it out.

That being said, nothing beats the original Mass Effect trilogy, epic tales of good vs evil, a story that was shaped by the decisions you made that would crossover into the sequels.

The Mass Effect trilogy was led by Commander Shepard with players having the choice of creating a male or female version.

Other than its launch bugs, replacing Commander Shepard in Mass Effect Andromeda was a tall task and filling that void was near impossible and arguably, never helped this new entry win over its loyal fans.

It remains to be seen whether Commander Shepard will return in Mass Effect 5, announced during The Game Awards in 2020, or if that’s even possible. We do know, however, that the next Mass Effect will at least feature the returning character, Liara T'Soni.

So if you’re missing Commander Shepard and want to bring him or her back, then today is your lucky day because you can download two cute paper versions to proudly display on your shelf.

Both the male and female versions of Commander Shepard come with their casual Alliance outfit and N7 armour, as well as an N7 hoodie. However, MaleShep will have the automatic N7 Eagle pistol and FemShep the N7 Crusader shotgun.

While we wait for the Mass Effect 5 release date, you can check out the original trilogy remastered thanks to the Mass Effect Legendary Edition on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
