Mass Effect 5, the unofficial title for the next entry in the beloved sci-fi series, has been confirmed to be a single-player title in this update from developer BioWare.
This tidbit was appended to the end of an announcement about the progress of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. I'm still not over the fact that the next Dragon Age is called Dreadwolf. If you don't get the issue I have, take yourself back to early 2019, and imagine how peeved you'd be if Disney told you the title of the ninth Star Wars film was "Star Wars: Palpatine." Bit pants, isn't it. Bit basic. Bit like they could have done better.
Anyway. BioWare general manager Gary McKay added that the Mass Effect team has had their noses to the grindstone on the new game and will be commemorating N7 Day, but it's likely that there won't be any further update than this in two weeks time. "We have a team hard at work envisioning what the future holds for a new single-player Mass Effect game," he said in a blog post to the Electronic Arts website. "We have so many cool things to show you in the future. Until then, thanks for being part of our community. We couldn’t do this without you." It sounds like the lessons of Anthem have been brought on board.
Advert
It checks out when we remember that Mass Effect 5 only entered early development in April of this year and that the wobbliness of Andromeda would have led to a hesitancy from the developer to show things off when they're watertight and not a millisecond before. Still, I'm sure that there will be some announcements on N7 Day, so stay sharp.
