Thanks to the painstaking work of a Mass Effect modder, Commander Shepard is now able to romance one of the most popular characters in the sci-fi series. Honestly, if you were on Mass Effect Tumblr back in the day - heck, even now - you'll know how much of a big moment this is.
It's a testament to the writing of the trilogy that, in spite of the overarching epic story about saving all organic life in the galaxy from continual cycles of destruction, the romances are the thing that players remember the most. And don't be like that about it. Some of these relationships are absolutely adorable and very wholesome, thank you for asking.

Of course, there are characters that players fell head over heels for, and then found out that their Shepard wasn't able to pursue them romantically. Fan art and fanfiction steps in to fill the void, but now, this mod from SpaceD0lphin allows players to date Jeff "Joker" Moreau, pilot of the SSV Normandy, in Mass Effect 3.
Joker is a good match for Shepard as he's an exceptionally skilled pilot, giving him a lot in common with the character's military background, and has a sarcastic yet well-meaning personality that lightens the seriousness of the situations that the crew encounter. He eventually enters a relationship with the ship's AI, EDI, however SpaceD0lphin has crowbarred that part of the game to be only platonic. New voice lines were created from a combination of existing dialogue and AI voice acting software and there's even a romance scene that is in line with rest of the scenes in the games. Bear in mind that this mod is compatible for FemShep and not for MShep, but the modder has said that they are working on compatibility with the Mass Effect 3 Legendary Edition of the game.
