Marvel 'changed all its plans' to make Jonathan Majors the centre of the MCU, oops

One insider claims that Marvel wasn't originally planning to make Kang the centre of the MCU until they saw Majors' performance in Loki.

Jonathan Majors, the American actor best known for his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Kang the Conqueror, was arrested and on charges of assault and harassment in Manhattan on 25 March.

The 33-year-old actor was allegedly involved in a domestic dispute with a 30-year-old woman, who was reportedly sent to the hospital for “minor injuries to her head and neck”. At the time, however, the actor’s legal team denied the allegations.

Since then, Majors ‘parted ways’ with his talent agency, Entertainment 360, and people have been wondering whether or not Marvel will end up recasting Kang the Conqueror, as he’s meant to play a huge role in a number of upcoming MCU films, including both 2025’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and 2026’s Avengers: Secret Wars. Previously, however, it was reported that Marvel has no plans to recast at all.

As UNILAD reports, it’s now been claimed by an insider that back before these allegations surfaced, Marvel had changed all of its original plans to make Majors a key part of the MCU based on his performance in Loki.

Author Joanna Robinson, who’s currently writing a book titled MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios, recently spoke on The Ringer’s podcast, The Big Picture, where she said: “I was told by someone who works for Marvel, it was not the plan to make Kang the centre of everything until they saw the dailies from Quantumania and after his performance in Loki, which was so strong they were like, 'This is it. This is our way forward. We’ve lost our varsity hero team, but let’s set up around this guy Kang and this performer that so many people are reacting to.’”

Allegedly, Marvel saw that it had a “huge problem” in how many fan-favourite cast members it’d lost after the events of Avengers: Endgame, and thought that Majors could be a solution.

“What’s unprecedented in this for Marvel is, I would argue they have never hung so much of a franchise on one actor, as they tried to hang it on Jonathan Majors after his Loki performance and his Ant-Man: Quantumania performance,” Robinson continued. “And that has put them in the bind.”
