Often people consider gaming to be a niche hobby, but in actuality it couldn’t be more mainstream. Revenue created by the video game industry actually surpasses that of the movie and music industry combined.
With the rise in the popularity of video games - in particular video game stories - has grown the interest to adapt those narratives into different media. While movie adaptations of films have got a bad wrap, a couple of recent bangers such as the Uncharted movie and Sonic The Hedgehog 2 have begun to turn the tide on public opinion.

It’s no wonder that even amateurs are picking up on the great worlds and aesthetics that video games have to offer. As spotted by Eurogamer, the Powerhouse Choir from John Burrough’s High School, California recently swept away the competition at the Hart Encore choir competition with their medley based on the world of Rapture from the original BioShock.

The choir took home all three of the biggest awards from the competition including Musicianship, Showmanship, and Best Soloist. Sadly there are no Big Daddies in their performance - or maybe happily if you’ve seen what they look like under the helmet - but alongside all the underwater Rapture themed songs, the choir are dressed in the 1950s fashion the era is known for, with matching Rapture-esqe props.
The glitz and glamour of the 1950s, alongside the fantastical underwater or above cloud settings of the BioShock franchise have also attracted the attention of bigger fish. There is a rumour that Netflix has a BioShock TV show in the works, though with the slew of shows the company has had to axe of late, we won’t be holding our breaths for its release anytime soon.
