As a huge fan of the Halo series, completing every one back to back on legendary difficulty, I can safely say that Halo 3 is my favourite of all time, both in the Halo series, and on Xbox in general. Maybe it was because it was the first one I played upon getting an Xbox 360, or maybe it was the fantastic story, weapon sandbox, chaotic multiplayer modes, or the pretty water, it’s got a special place in my heart.

Good to see I’m not alone either, as Emilia67 shared a post on Reddit asking Xbox fans: “What is the best Xbox exclusive of all time?” with their answer being “For me I still think Halo 3 is at the top, it was the perfect conclusion to the original trilogy.”

Halo 3 was a spectacular finale to Bungie’s trilogy, which was followed up by spin-offs/prequels Halo 3: ODST and Halo Reach. The series was then passed to 343 Industries with limited success, kicking off a new story with Halo 4, leading up to the most recent entry, Halo Infinite.

Halo 3 did gain new life as part of Halo: The Master Chief Collection, which brought all previous Halo titles from Halo: Combat Evolved to Reach back to modern consoles, with their mythic campaigns and iconic multiplayer maps and modes intact.

Many agreed that Halo 3 is the greatest Xbox exclusive of all time, praising the game for the amount of hype it built in anticipation of its release, as well as the quality of the title itself.

“It was the perfect storm of promotional presentation, game quality, and freedom to play I had at the time. What a treat Halo 3 was.”

“Best marketing campaign in gaming history”

“Many late nights with friends online. Still one of my favorite titles.”

Other contenders for the best exclusive were Gears of War 2, The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind, Forza Horizon, and Jet Set Radio Future, all of which are phenomenal titles in their own right.

Xbox has produced some fantastic exclusive games over the years, but I don’t think many can live up to the legacy left by Halo 3, which solidified the Bungie Halo games as one of the greatest sci-fi stories ever told in gaming.
