It’s been confirmed that GTA VI will have an exclusive deal with PlayStation 5, which could mean Xbox gamers might miss out on some content, at least initially.

Assuming that we’re not about to curse the launch of the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series, it’s probably safe at this point to assume that GTA VI will release as intended this coming November.

That being said, this is Rockstar Games we’re talking about here, which is no stranger to long delays, whether it's related to the Grand Theft Auto series or Red Dead Redemption. However, the proof has often been in the pudding, with the developers making the most out of the added production time.

Rockstar Games Agrees to Exclusive Playstation Deal

As brought to our attention by Twitter user Genki_JPN via Bloomberg, Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two Interactive, has confirmed that an exclusive marketing deal has been agreed with Sony PlayStation.

What Does This Mean for Playstation and Xbox Gamers?

At the moment, we’re not entirely sure. The most likely scenario is that we’ll see PlayStation 5 and GTA VI console bundles at retail, as well as cross-advertising on social media, billboards and whatnot.

It’s probably unlikely that GTA VI will get exclusive DLC, but if that happens, it will most perhaps be a timed deal. I think we can also rule out an early access release of a few days on PlayStation 5 but never say never.

GTA VI,

However, when GTA Online launched as a standalone game on PlayStation 5, it was free for the first few months, and the online offering did have free in-game currency. So, it’s not outside the realm of possibility that something similar might happen with GTA VI’s iteration of GTA Online.

What’s The GTA VI Story?

“Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive,” reads the synopsis of the game.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to be released on 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The PC launch hasn't been officially revealed yet.
