Earlier this month, American Migos rapper Kirshnik Khari Ball (AKA Takeoff) passed away after reportedly being shot in Houston, Texas. He was just 28 years old.
As reported by UNILAD, gamers this week have paid their respects to the rapper in GTA Online at a dedicated virtual funeral, which had a number of rules in place to ensure that everyone was respectful of the situation.
“Tonight we laid Takeoff to rest. All fans welcome [at] three locations,” a notice circulated on Twitter read. “All white at the church[,] all black at the house party[,] wear your best fit at the after party.”
Attendees were all required to have a working microphone in order to participate, and were forbidden from killing anyone in-game during the event. They were also advised to “stay in line”, “follow the street law”, and no crashing was permitted. Reportedly, the event organisers sought out users to act as security, as well as a hearse driver, so that everything could run smoothly.

An edited video of the event has been posted to TikTok, and fans are sharing their love in the comments: “Damn got me crying and feeling all emotional,” one wrote. “This is so beautiful man,” another said. “Damn this is so dope... Good job gamers,” another user commented.
Following the announcement of Takeoff’s death, the rapper’s record label, Quality Control Music, issued a statement: “Senseless violence and a stray bullet has taken another life from this world and we are devastated,” it reads. “Please respect his family and friends as we all continue to process this monumental loss.”
The rapper’s real-life funeral is set to take place on Friday (11 November) at State Farm Arena, Atlanta.
