Despite the fact that Grand Theft Auto VI is set to launch on both PlayStation and Xbox consoles, it seems as though just one of those is set to come out on top.

If a fall 2025 release date is to be believed then we are coming up to just over a year until we can finally get our hands on Grand Theft Auto VI.

Check out the first official trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI below!

With it being one of the most anticipated games of all time, it is perhaps no wonder that it is also expected to be the biggest media release of all time and so it is no wonder that both Sony and Microsoft are eager for it to put its consoles in the limelight.

However, according to a recent rumour, it will be Sony that has “locked down marketing rights” to the next Grand Theft Auto entry.

As a result, both the PlayStation 5 and upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro will have some heavy marketing.

This rumour comes courtesy of the XNC podcast where “MAGG” claims that during Rockstar’s second trailer for GTA VI, we will see that "Sony has locked down marketing rights for GTA 6 for the PS5 and PS5 Pro only".

When asked what this will mean for marketing on Xbox, he said, “"nothing, they're still getting it... it's just not going to get the marketing exposure, that's all".

This will be quite the blow for Microsoft but with the PS5 Pro expected to be announced any day now, it will be the perfect way for the mid-generation Sony console to gain some traction.

Speaking of, the PS5 Pro is rumoured to be unveiled during the upcoming Tokyo Games Show which kicks off on 26 September.

We have already seen a sneak peek of its design as well as news of its specs and it is safe to say that the Pro is expected to add a lot more power compared to the base PS5.

Not only that but the first game arriving on the console is set to be quite the big one.

It is worth taking all of these rumours with a pinch of salt, but if true, Sony is set to have a big few months thanks to Rockstar’s highly-anticipated title.
