GTA 6 file size considerably smaller than 750GB, but still massive

Another day without news of a Grand Theft Auto VI release date has led fans to start speculating on how big the instalment may actually be.

Last week saw one Reddit user use a combination of map leaks and maths know-how to work out how big the Grand Theft Auto 6 map will be. Spoiler alert – it's huge. Since then, another user has sat down to analyse GTA 6’s 2022 leaks to see what we may have missed. This includes an estimate that the Grand Theft Auto sequel will be around 200GB to download.

Check out everything we know about GTA 6 so far below!

“The file size of the dev build was possibly around 80 GB”, they said. “My very personal guess is, we can expect just under 200 GB as the final file size because dev builds often only have specific features active which are currently needed.” This would mean Grand Theft Auto VI will be significantly bigger than Grand Theft Auto V which only needed 18GB of storage when it first launched in 2013 for the Xbox 360. This, of course, makes sense considering current-gen consoles have improved video games performance drastically in the last ten years.

Not only can we expect incredible graphic performance, but the rumoured map size makes the 200GB estimate make sense. With Grand Theft Auto 6 taking fans back to Vice City, we can expect the standard landmarks as well as the Vice City Metro, according to leaks which includes three lines that span over 24 stations. Additionally, the 2022 document leaks also hint at Mexico and Canada being mentioned multiple times as well as clues that the map could feature a large body of water.

The recent reexamination of the documents also reveals some fun additions such as being able to buy gum from gumball machines (10/10 game), the chance to drive excavators and even the existence of lions and tigers in the game. Whether or not all of this is true remains to be seen but it definitely adds to the hype that has been building since Grand Theft Auto VI was first announced by Rockstar Games in February 2022.
